Re: Open Door Law
Just a reminder that all Ogden Dunes Committees and Boards must follow the Indiana “Open Door Law”. As you may already know, this law addresses the posting of meeting announcements 48-hours prior to the meeting (excluding Saturday, Sunday and holidays). You must also advise the media of your meetings. See below for newspaper contacts. You must also advise the media and the residents of Ogden Dunes when you have a change of location, date or time of your meeting. Please post these changes 48-hours prior to your meeting (excluding Saturday, Sunday and holidays).
If an agenda is used for your meeting, you must have copies available at the meeting for the public plus post a copy of your agenda at the entrance to your meeting room prior to the meeting.
Should your board or committee need to hold an Executive Session (board members only excluding the public), we suggest that you contact the Clerk Treasurer’s Office for details regarding these types of meetings as there are specific laws you must follow. However, keep in mind that Executive Sessions must still abide by the 48-hour notice law even though the public is not permitted to attend these sessions.
There is a complete Indiana Code for the Open Door Law online at
which explains the law in detail. If you are unable to access this or if you have any questions, please contact Jean Manna, Clerk Treasurer at 219-762-4125.
